Alain WUNDRACK est un Lorrain exilé dans le sud de la France qui a longtemps ignoré l’artiste qui sommeillait en lui. Passionné de moto, il commença par donner une seconde vie à de vieilles pièces mécaniques hors d’usage : têtes de soupapes, pistons, volants moteurs, disques de frein, vilebrequins, etc. Aujourd’hui, il découpe, martèle, polit l’acier sans relâche ; travaillée à froid par ce tempérament de feu, la matière se tord sous ses doigts pour se rendre docile.
Son art s’inscrit ouvertement dans la démarche écologique du recyclage. Son œuvre prend toute sa dimension éthique lorsqu’en soustrayant ces objets au cycle industriel et en les dépouillant de leur fonction première, il révèle aux sceptiques que le beau et l’imaginaire sont tout aussi indispensables à l’homme que le fonctionnel.
Alain WUNDRACK is an artist born in the east of France who moved to the south decades ago, and ignored the artist who slept in him for too long. Passionate about motorcycles, he began by giving a second life to old mechanical parts out of use: valve heads, pistons, flywheels, brake discs, crankshafts, etc. Today, he cuts, hammers, polishes steel relentlessly until the matter twists under his fingers to make itself docile.
His art is openly part of the ecological approach of recycling. His work takes on its ethical dimension when, by subtracting these objects from the industrial cycle and stripping them of their primary function, he reveals to skeptics that beauty and imagination are just as essential to man as functional.
