Artiste quercynois d’une quarantaine d’années, c’est sur ses terres natales que Nicolas MIALET demeure et crée depuis plus de quinze ans une œuvre contemporaine abstraite confrontant tradition et postmodernisme. « Brutes ou stylisées, sobres ou colorisées mes colonnes à la fois inspirées par les gratte-ciels de nos sociétés modernes et reflet des totems (…) des civilisations premières, hurlent la diversité des paradoxes. Métal et bois s’opposent, cohabitent et s’unissent a l’image de l’homme qui s’impose, s’installe et s’approprie la nature. »

Arboriste au début du siècle, il côtoie l’arbre vivant au plus près une quinzaine d’années durant avant d’emprunter le chemin menant à la sculpture et de travailler l’arbre matière.

The living tree, path to sculpture, to the material tree.

Nicolas MIALET, an artist from the South-West of France in his 40s, has been living and creating in his native lands an abstract contemporary work confronting tradition and postmodernism for over fifteen years. “Raw or stylized, sober or coloured, my columns, inspired by the skyscrapers of our modern societies and a reflection of the totems of early civilizations, howl the diversity of paradoxes. Metal and wood are opposed, coexist and unite in the image of man who imposes, settles and appropriates nature.”

 Arborist at the beginning of the century, he rubbed shoulders with the living tree for about fifteen years before taking the path leading to the sculpture and working the material tree.

“Leaving a message, sharing a look”. Seeking shapes, lines, playing with textures, stimulating the senses, deflecting the wood, then forgetting the material in a naive and spontaneous expression, such is the credo of Nicolas Mialet.
